The difference between self-drilling screw and self-tapping screw

 Self-tapping screw is one of the most commonly used industrial fasteners. It is the earliest engineered fastener product which was manufactured for hardened steel. From Industrial Revolution to today, self-tapping screws are still popular and have many styles and types made for specific fastening functions.


The distinction between self-tapping screws and self-drilling screws is the shape. On the end of two screws, self-tapping screw is pointed while the width of the end in self-drilling screw is the same as the part above.


Except for the shape, there is no difference between self-drilling screw and self-tapping screw. Whether it is self-tapping screw or self-drilling screw, collectively referred as self-tapping screw. Both of them are used for installing short rail or tin clamp on the metal roof in solar industry.

  Grounding PV modules  to reduce or eliminate shock and fire hazards is necessary and required by Electrical Code in countries in USA, Australia etc. The grounding guidelines of the Code es sentially state that all electrical equipment is to be grounded by means of direct attachment to an equipment grounding conductor. This can be done in many different ways. The traditional method is to use the ground bond point of each  solar panel  and connect all the panels together with heavy gauge bare copper wire. This approach can be difficult, time-consuming and costly. Some of the difficulties in grounding PV modules arise from the fact that copper conductors are typically used for electrical connections while the module frames are generally made of aluminum.
